Metcalfe worked alongside Ballinger to design playful environmental graphics and photography-based art for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s new 6-story inpatient hospital in King of Prussia.
The curated photography collection of over 200 images centers around the theme of “Children in Nature”. The imagery evokes a sense of joy and reflects the diversity of ages, ethnicities, and abilities found within the community.
Smaller wall-mounted pieces and floor-to-ceiling photo murals complement abstract geometric shapes that adorn the public walkways. Integrating photography and illustration, the larger photo murals feature charming overlays of custom graphics. These surprises add a layer of whimsy and emphasize the overall theme. Together, the custom illustrations and vibrant photography provide positive distractions for patients, families, and staff.
