After a 27-year battle for the right to provide Philadelphians with public-access television, PhillyCAM hired Metcalfe to design its permanent, 6,000 square foot headquarters in a repurposed mid-century modern building. The new facility features television studios, media production training rooms, and offices. A bank of windows at street level display a bustling café and lively television studio to draw in passersby.
Phase 2 involved the redesign of the building’s 7th Street façade. Bold exterior graphics—including a colorful digital billboard based on the organization’s branded identity—attract visitors from afar, while new exterior signage, in the form of brightly-colored sign bands, points them to the entryway. The effect goes beyond enhancing the entrance to creating a graphic identity for the organization.
