There is nothing better than starting the new year off with some good news!
We are excited to share that Katy Johnson, AIA and Rich Gallagher, AIA have been promoted.
Katy Johnson, AIA has been promoted to Design Director.
“Katy's talent, compassion, and hard work for more than a decade at Metcalfe have had a positive and lasting impact on the studio. Her ability to seamlessly move between project types and scales is indispensable to our clients and our studio,” partners Jason Manning and Christopher Kircher announced. “A designer, architect, coworker, friend and mom, Katy is a true joy to work with and an amazing human being.”
Katy’s background in both interior design and architecture taught her the importance of designing for the human experience. She works on projects across all the studio’s disciplines from nature playgrounds and museum exhibits to campus master plans and high-efficiency residences.
As design director, Katy’s focus is on establishing a design vision for each project that addresses the client’s needs in a thoughtful and engaging way.
“I’ve always been very passionate about Metcalfe’s collaborative studio culture and the opportunities we have to design such a broad range of work. I’m very excited to be in a position to help Metcalfe’s design vision become reality.”
Rich Gallagher, AIA has been promoted to Studio Director.
“Rich's approach to the studio's work, whether internal or external, is thoughtful and collaborative,” shared partners Christopher Kircher and Jason Manning. “His work ethic and constant consideration for his colleagues is invaluable. Kind, caring and professional, Rich continues to be dedicated to nurturing and evolving our strong studio culture.”
Since joining Metcalfe in 2016, Rich has been an integral part of our team, focusing on creating impactful, community-centered spaces. He most recently led a project with the Free Library of Philadelphia, reimagining the 100+ year old Frankford Library branch into a welcoming and accessible community hub.
“My favorite thing about working at Metcalfe has been collaborating with so many talented, creative, and genuinely good people. I’m thrilled to be in a position to better help our team thrive as colleagues and as creators, and to help our studio evolve as Metcalfe enters an exciting new phase.”
Congratulations, Katy and Rich. We are grateful for everything you do and couldn't ask for a better pair to help guide us into the future here at Metcalfe!
